Alfanar is the first venture philanthropy organisation working exclusively in the Arab world. We improve lives in disadvantaged communities by investing in and strengthening innovative grassroots organisations responding to pressing needs. Alfanar's high-engagement venture philanthropy approach applies the principles of private sector investment to charitable giving. We help charities, nonprofits, and social enterprises in the Arab region fulfill their social objectives while becoming more financially independent. We strive to deliver social returns that are scalable, sustainable, and game changing. To learn more about Alfanar, watch our film.
The innovative organisations and daring leaders Alfanar supports are working tirelessly to further the education and empowerment of women and children by improving early childhood education, enhancing economic opportunities, especially for women, widening access to health care, combatting domestic violence and raising awareness of social, economic, and human rights. Since our inception in 2005 we have invested in 15 grassroots organisations in Egypt and impacted more than 13,000 lives. At the end of 2012 Alfanar approved its first investments in children's education in Lebanon and Libya.
Started by Tarek Ben Halim in 2004, Alfanar is guided by the vision that over time strengthening organisations and their leaders will not only improve lives but transform communities. Please see the Memorial Fund Video to learn more about Tarek's vision.
We are constantly striving to build constructive relationships with promising civil society organisations in order to make lasting positive change to communities in need. True to the meaning of our name in Arabic, Alfanar strives to be a "beacon" of change for the Arab world. Find out more about how you can support Alfanar.
